I installed VLC player on it, and listen to all 16 GBs of my music at work without fail.
Overall Review: I reformatted the device as soon as I got it, but WD gives you the ability to download the software from their website at a later point. In Windows 7 SP1, the beeping stops after about 3-5min, then I hear the disks wind down (and maybe even stop). In Mac, it is completely unrecognized (even with Disk Utility). Now when I plug it in, it makes this beeping noise. * Seems very solid, but can be a scratch magnet. My cat swatted my HDD off my desk and it hit my tile floor. WD gives you a cable to go with it (about 1.5 feet long), but if you wanted to take this everywhere, you'd either have to count on someone having a USB cable with a mini-plug that's short enough, or bring your own cable. Additionally, USB cables which are too long generate the same issue. A USB hub won't give the device enough power to operate, and the machine will show a drive error, instead. This makes it excellent for pockets.Ĭons: * Unfortunately, the construction of this device means that it's power requirements can only be satisfied by a direct USB connection to your computer. On the physical side, it's as wide as a typical wallet and just a little bit longer. * Size - 160 GB is plenty for all of my music, documents, TV shows, and a few games and applications. It’s in a format that your Mac understands and will work with straight away. The ‘for Mac’ part of the title means that you can plug right into your Mac. One is WD My Passport and it’s made for plug and play with a Windows PC. * Comes with additional WD backup and formatting software. There are two products under the WD My Passport title. * Power light next to the mini USB port is a nice touch.
* Black Finish - Looks excellent, unless you get up close, it's difficult to see the scratches. I ended up making off with an excellent on-the-go hard drive that effectively replaces my USB key drives. Pros: * Shell Shocker deal - Got this during one of NewEgg's Shell Shocker promotions.
